Next log - Bahamas

We left Maryland just after the October 2006 sailboat show, and headed south, following the schooner race down the bay.  Susan's mom & stepfather, Pam & Vince Pahl, were aboard for the trip.  Winds started out light & variable, but quickly built to 30 knots for the overnight sail.

Susan's mom set a speed record for TabbyCat - 17.5 kts(!) at 3AM(!!) under double reefed main and jib. Shortly after setting this record, she exclaimed, "Susan, what's that in fromt of us!?!"

Susan replied, "Fish Traps!" She then grabbed the wheel and we gybed at something near 17.5 kts - WHAM! The boom slammed, the boat did a little shimmy and we were now heading towards the Eastern Shore of Virginia with the stakes of fish traps close enough to hang laundry on!
